A real tree is easier to decorate, if it has smaller needles. The branches should have enough places between them to allow the decorations to hang freely and be visible at their best. The decorations that are hung straight make the tree look better and more organized. Buy only the fresh tree so that it won't shed too many needles or boughs. As you bring the real tree home, a fresh cut on the trunk of the tree will make it absorb water more quickly. Keep refilling the stand with the lukewarm water to keep the tree fresh for longer period of time. Refills should be done before the water level can dip below the base of the trunk. A huge tree needs to be secured properly to the floor or the wall while any imperfect branches may need to be trimmed with scissors almost parallel to the floor to make the cuts subtle. Trimmings of the Christmas tree are not a waste!. Use them creatively for other Christmas decorations around the home such as in Christmas centerpieces.
